COMMUNITY HOUSE RENOVATION
The Lyon Park community is undertaking a major renovation of the historic but aging Community House, located at Lyon Park on Fillmore Street.
A design concept for the renovation was agreed by the community in December 2009. Details of the process leading to the design concept are contained in Creating a Renovation Plan for the Lyon Park Community Center. The LIBRARY also contains these documents.
The Board of Governors of the Community Center (BOG) is responsible for Lyon Park and the Community House and is in overall charge of the renovation. In early 2010, the BOG created two committees to move the project forward: a Building Committee and a Fundraising Committee. Both committees report to the Board of Governors, with the advice of the Lyon Park Citizens Association and the Woman’s Club, which are the organizational members of the Community Center.
FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
The Community House Fundraising Committee is headed by John Fiske and is seeking additional volunteers. See this flyer concerning the help they need. Raising the $650,000+ needed to carry out the renovation will be a major undertaking, and current estimates are that it could require three years.
BUILDING COMMITTEE
The Community House Building Committee was charged with obtaining cost estimates, (identifying/selecting an architect?), developing a final plan, and eventually overseeing construction. Committee members include Adam Rasmussen, Kathleen McSweeney, Robert Dudka, Ken Bell (Chairman), Sue Robinson, Elliott Mandell, Margaret Fibel, Gary Putnam, Elizabeth Sheehy, and Shirley Larson.
